Markandya Purana Ki Katha: The Markandeya Purana is a Sanskrit text of Hinduism named after the sage Markandeya. It is one of the oldest Puranas and contains 137 chapters on topics such as dharma (righteous duties), the world, and Shraddha (rituals for ancestors). The Markandeya Purana includes 9,000 verses presenting various subjects, including mythology, religion, and society. It is believed that the first version of the Markandeya Purana was composed by Sage Markandeya near the Narmada River, providing significant details about the Vindhya mountain range and Western India. The Purana is particularly popular in the eastern parts of India, like Odisha and West Bengal.

There is a mythological belief that the author of the Markandeya Purana is Lord Brahma himself, as it was spoken by him.

Who is Sage Markandeya? Sage Markandeya, a disciple of Lord Brahma, belongs to the Hindu tradition and was born in the lineage of Sage Bhrigu. Through rigorous religious practices (Hatha Yoga), Sage Markandeya attained many spiritual powers and worshiped until the end of time (Brahma-Kalpa). While meditating, his concentration reached Brahmaloka (also known as Mahaswarga). Although Sage Markandeya considered his worship to be supreme, the truth was that he could not escape the cycle of time (Kal) due to not following the scriptural guidelines for salvation.
