Again, Lord Vishnu had narrated the knowledge of this story to the gods Indradi and sages like Naradji during the churning of the ocean. For the third time, the knowledge of the sacred Kurma Purana was narrated to eighty-eight thousand sages by Sage Romharshan on the occasion of the twelfth year Mahasatra of Naimisharanya. This name of Kurma Purana is narrated by Kurma, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, hence Kurma Purana has become famous.

Story of kurma Purana Ki katha:  When both the gods and demons agreed to churn the ocean to obtain the nectar, first of all all the medicines on earth were churned into the ocean. For churning, Mandaranchal mountain was used as a churner and Vasuki snake was used as a rope to churn the ocean. But Mandarachal Mountain started sinking into the sea and went into the underworld of the bottomless ocean.

Then the Gods and Demons prayed to Lord Vishnu and Lord Vishnu took the form of Kurma i.e. Tortoise and lifted Mandarachal Mountain on his back and used the mountain as a churner. In this way the ocean was churned by gods and demons.
As a result of the churning of the ocean, these fourteen gems emerged - Parijat Vashksha, Hari Chandan, Kalp Vashksha, Kaustubh Mani, Dhanvantari Vaidya, Moon, Kamdhenu, Airavat elephant, Uchchaih Shrava horse, Sharng bow, Lakshmi, Rambha, Conch, Varuni, Kalkoot, Amashta Kalash.
